Busy, Busy, Busy

Once again its been a busy few months for our club members.

PJ McCarthy has been prominent competing in the Tralee half marathon, Omagh half marathon and the Hamburg full marathon where he ran a personal best time of 3 hours 21 minutes.

Other members have been busy too.  Joanne Heffernan was our only member to brave the Suirvivor Mud run on the 20th April last and although she is still washing the mud out, she has recommended this event and suggests we should get a team together for the next one.

Claire Fowler ran another great half marathon in Wexford on the 21st April last and also took part in the Stoneyford half earlier in the year (and probably a few more which I have forgotten).

Darren Crowley is busy training for the Edinburgh Marathon on the 26th May next and we wish him the best of luck with it.

SUMMER ROAD RUNNING

The road running summer series is well under way now.  A number of our members took part in the Butlerstown 10k on the 19th April and a larger number ran in the Tramore 4 on the 26th April and all seemed happy with their efforts.  We may not have won any of the prizes in the races themselves but we certainly won the race to the refreshments afterwards - always very important!

The next race is the summer series is the Waterford to Tramore run this coming Saturday May 4th at 7pm, details below.

Full on February

What a busy February for Tramore AC.

We started the month with a meeting of our senior members  to discuss the running of the club and it was great to see so many come to the meeting and offer their services to help train the beginners for the Ryan and Ethan Viking Marathon Challenge.  Our club is growing and it is important to keep in touch with all our members to ensure that club is moving in the right direction and that everybody gets something out of being part of a club.  A sub-committee was formed on the night with Davy as Chairman, Shirley as Secertary, Siobhan as Treasuer, Lisa as PRO and Jenny and Elaine Keating offering to help in any of those roles.

We had a big number take part in the Anne Valley Challenge on the 9th February and despite the hills, most were very happy with their run and it was good to see smiling faces in the refreshments tent afterwards.
Races are on most weekends now and although none of our members took part in the Kilmacthomas 5 mile run, Claire Fowler ran a fantastic 1 hour 39 minute half marathon in Mount Juliet on the 16th February and was the 4th female finisher.
This Sunday, the 24th there is a 10k in Dungarvan at 11am and a 10k in Duncannon at 12 noon. Members will run in each of the races so best of luck to all.
As the numbers at training sessions continue to grow, it is important that everyone pays their membership fee as this includes insurance. You will also get a 10% from Woodies on production of your membership card. Below is a list of over 18 members as at the 19th February 2013.  If your name is not on the list, you are not insured.  Please pick up a membership form from Shirley or Siobhan on any of the training nights, fill it in and return it with your €25 fees and you will be registered.

A Great January and looking forward

What a busy month January was for Tramore AC Seniors.  The month started off with all our regulars getting back into training after the Christmas break and we were joined in the middle of the month with the people talking on the Ryan and Ethan Waterford Viking Challenge.  Monday's and Wednesdays are now very busy with all the excited newcomers and members have been helping with the training and encouragement for the "Challengers".  If you are prepared to take part in the challenge, remember to pick up an entry form and sponsorship card at training and hand your completed entry form and money to Tracy Dunne who will then enter you or your relay team in the Waterford Viking Marathon on behalf of the Ryan and Ethan challenge.

We had a huge number compete in the Dungarvan 10 at the end of the month with many personal best times and great performances by all who took part.  We also had the best supporters who make any distance easier with their encouraging cheers.  A great evening and night was had by many in Merry's in Dungarvan and the Vic in Tramore afterwards.

The road race season is well and truly underway now and these are a few races coming up in the next few weeks:

  • Anne Valley 5 mile Challenge - Saturday 9th February 12 noon
  • Enniscorthy 10k - Sunday 10th February 12 noon
  • Run Mount Juliet, 3k, 0k and half Marathon - Saturday 16th February 11am
  • Kilmacthomas 5 mile - Sunday 17th February 11am
  • Duncannon 10k - Sunday 24th February 12 noon
  • Dungarvan 10k - Sunday 24th February - time to be confirmed
Many of these races can be entered on RunIreland or on the day.

If any of our members have arranged to meet for a run Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays, please put details of these arrangements on the Tramore AC Facebook page if you are willing to have others join you.  It is easier run in a group and as there are so many of us, there is no reason why anyone should run alone if they don't want to.

Finally, membership fees are now overdue - please bring your completed membership form and your fees to Monday or Wednesday training.  Remember, you are not insured if you have not paid your membership fee.

Happy running.

A BUSY JANUARY

2012 was a great year for Tramore AC with so many new people joining our group and so many of our members taking part of the first ever Waterford Viking Marathon in June.

We were well represented around the country and beyond in many events from 5k's to marathons and well done to everyone involved.  As it is not all about taking part in races, well done also to everyone who turned up week after week all year round to train and play a vital part in our club.

DUNGARVAN 10

With a large number of our members signed up for the Dungarvan 10 mile race on the 27th January next, training continued over the Christmas and New Year period for many.  There are approximately 23 of our runners taking part in what is a popular race and this a great measure of how our club has grown.  We will also have our "cheerleaders" in attendance, it wouldn't be the same without them!  We have booked Merry's in Dungarvan for food and a well earned drink after the race.

RYAN AND ETHAN VIKING MARATHON CHALLENGE

As many of you will already know, there is a huge fundraising campaign underway for treatment for Ryan and Ethan Caulfield McCormack, two young boys from Tramore, Co.Waterford, who were recently diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). ALD is a deadly genetic disease that affects 1 in 18,000 people.

Our club are playing our part along with Waterford AC and Micheál Mac Craith GAA club.  We are looking for teams and individuals to take part in the Viking Marathon in relays or on their own and to raise sponsorship for the appeal.   Those who take part will get entry into the Viking Marathon,  a "Save Ryan and Ethan Appeal T-Shirt" as well as a Viking Marathon T-Shirt in return for raising €125 in sponsorship per person.

Monday 14th January is the start of the training for the big day and our club are taking on the task of training people for the challenge.  We would ask that club members would make themselves available to help any beginners in their training.  Entry forms and sponsorship cards will be available on Monday 14th January for members who wish to take part in the Ryan and Ethan Viking Marathon Challenge and we would hope that as many of you as possible will be willing to take part.

For more information see the facebook page or click here

MEMBERSHIP 2013

Annual subscription is now due.  Please collect a membership form from Siobhan, complete it and return it to her along with the fee of €25.   Please remember that if you don't pay your membership, you are not insured!

Catching up with Tramore AC

It has been a busy few months at Tramore AC and our Monday numbers are growing every week which is great to see.  I will recap what has been going on since my last post and let you know what is coming up........

Dublin City Marathon

Tramore AC runners had a successful Dublin City Marathon which saw great performances all round and a number of PB's.  Congratulations to all of you Laura Walsh, Nellie Cuddihy, Antoinette Breslin, Donal Breslin, PJ McCarthy, Darren Crowley and Michael Hayes.  Also a very well done to the supporters group that travelled - all of whom could be heard before been seen but looked as good as they sounded!!!!!  Congratulations also to many Waterford and Tramore people who took part in the marathon, it was great to see so may locals doing so well.

Waterford Half Marathon

We also had a large number take part in the Waterford Half Marathon on the 1st December.  The course was a tougher one this year but we are well used to hills out here in Tramore so it was nearly like a flat course for Davy, PJ, Jackie, Michael, Paul, Niamh, Patrice, Aileen, Rachel and Sinead.  Well done all of you.  Well done also the Tramore AC members who worked so hard on the second water station - thanks to all of you for volunteering and giving up your time.

Christmas Party

Our Tramore AC christmas party is Saturday the 8th December 2012 at The Victoria House (The Vic).  If you haven't already booked your place, please contact Lisa Stapleton to let her know you want to go.  A good night is in store and it will be lovely to see everyone in their glitz and glamour instead of sweating and red faced.

THIS POSTER SAYS IT ALL FOLKS.   PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SUPPORT THIS WORTHY CAUSE AND DON'T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR SANTA HAT

DUNGARVAN 10

The Dungarvan 10 takes place on Sunday January 27th 2013.  This is a great event and attracts huge numbers every year.  We hope to run a bus to Dungarvan for this event and we plan to stop off for a few refreshments on the way home!!  Get your entries in soon as this event fills up fast and entries are capped at 1750.  Click this link here for more details... by the way spot the photo of two familiar smiling faces!!!

South East Run for Life 2012

Tramore AC had a huge amount of members doing the 10 mile Run for Life today in Waterford and congratulations are due to everyone who ran, donated money and supported this well deserving cause.

I will attempt to name all our gang starting with the men, Davy, PJ, Donal, Paul and Garvan and the girls - Lisa, Jayne, Ruth, Gean, Elaine, Niamh, Shirley, Antoinette, Noelene, Margaret, Tracy, Veronica, Sinead, Rachel and Clodagh.  If I have forgotten someone, sorry but we are getting so big now, it is hard to keep track of everyone.

Thanks also to our supporters, Laura, Gwen, Sandra Flavin, Nellie, Elaine Keating and Joanne Heffernan and to everyone who sent messages of support, it gave us all a boost when it was badly needed.

Well done to PJ McCarthy on good results in recent runs including a 14th place finish in the Sligo Half Marathon on the 15th September last and  a 42nd place finish in the 26.2km Kilomarathon in Kilcock, Co. Kildare on the 30th September.

Summer events and looking forward

As the summer draws to a close and schools starting back in the next few days, hopefully all our members will be back to running on Monday and Wednesday night at 7pm. It will be great to catch up with everyone again and pick our challenges for the months ahead.

With some members taking a well earned rest, others have been busy taking part in the various races around the County and further afield. It was especially rewarding to see some of our newer members Elaine, Sarah Jane and Rachel run in the 5k in the new nature park earlier in the summer and also well done to Siobhan, Jackie, Tracy and Laura who ran the Island 5k last week.

PJ McCarthy continues on his mission to "run the alphabet" and today completed the Longford Half Maraton in a very impressive 1 hour 35 mins finishing 43rd overall and 6th in his age category.

Next Wednesday the 29th August there is a 10k fun run in Tramore organised by Boots Chemist.  It starts as 7pm at the Racecourse and finishes outside the Majestic, entry fee €10, all proceeds going to charity.  Registration is from 6pm.  As we usually run at 7pm on a Wednesday night, it would be good if some of our members could take part in this run.

Next Friday the 31st August the 5 mile Genzyne Road Race in aid of MS Ireland take place at 7.30pm starting and ending at Genzyme.  Entry fee is €12 and you can register on Run Ireland up to Thursday or €15 on the night.

Life after Waterford Viking Marathon

A very well deserved congratulations is due to all our members who took part in the Waterford Viking Marathon on the 30th June 2012 last and a warm thank you to the supporters on the day whose encouragement was invaluable along the route - Jenny and Sandra take a bow!  After a great night The Vic that night, many of our members took a well earned rest last week but it was back to normal on Monday and it was great to see so many back on the road ready for the next challenge.  With some now looking towards the Dublin Marathon, many of our members might be looking for shorter races and there are a few of these coming up over the next few weeks :

Zamda 5k fun run in the new Kilbarry Park on Friday 20th July 2012 at 8pm - entry fee €10

Woodstown 5 Mile run on Saturday 11th August 2012 at 7.00pm

Genzyme 5 mile road race in aid of MS Ireland Friday 31st August 2012 at 7.30pm enter here

We now wish to collect all the sponsorship money raised by our members so please bring your money along as soon as possible.

Busy Week

3 days to go to the Waterford Viking Marathon in what will be a very busy week for Tramore AC.  Before we get to that, a very well done is due to Claire Fowler who completed the Strawberry Half Marathon in Enniscorthy in a fantastic 1 hour 40 mins and finished 2nd in her category.  The gauntlet has now been thrown down to all our half marathoners this Saturday!!

Thanks to everyone who made it to training Monday night for the photo shoot - the result of which can be seen above.  Hopefully at some stage we will be able to get everyone together as there were some longstanding members missing for this photo.

Anyone who wishes to go out on Friday evening for the "pre-marathon meal"  we are meeting at The Vee Bistro at 6.30pm and please, if you haven't given your name to Lisa, let her know if you are attending.  Don't forget Saturday night in the Vic at 8.30 for the "post-marathon drink"  This is now becoming a tradition and we just love traditions in this club.  Wear your Viking Marathon t-shirt and medal with pride.

Good luck to Davy and his stewards and let's hope for an incident free day for them on Saturday.

Best of luck to all 28 of our club and running group members who are competing on Saturday and we look forward to all the race stories on Saturday night over a glass of lemonade!!

Countdown to Waterford Viking Marathon is on!

As I type there is 1 week, 21 hours and 27 mins left to the start of the Waterford Viking Marathon.  With so many of our athletes taking part, it is nearly impossible to list them all - but I will give it a go and apologise in advance if I forget someone.  So here goes..... best of luck to Lisa Stapleton, Shirley Fennelly, Suzanne Casey, Niamh O'Sullivan, Caroline Corcoran,  Gean Jacob, Joanne Dunne, Jackie McGee, PJ McCarthy, Donal Breslin and Antoinette Breslin who all tackle the full marathon and to Sandra Flavin, Elaine Keating, Laura Walsh, Elaine Walsh, Noeline Flavin, Margaret Keane, Joanne Hefferan, Gwen Wagenaar, Ruth Brophy, Garvan Toomey, Siobhan Grimes, Nellie Cuddihy, Rose Cowman, Julie Dunne and Edwina McDonald who will do the half marathon.  Ann O'Brien, Martina Stewart and Mary Smith will compete in the relay event.  This is a huge amount of athletes taking part for a senior club in its infancy and  a massive thank you and credit is due to Davy Wade for bringing the majority of those competing to this point.  Best of luck also to Davy, head steward for the marathon, who is sporting a few more grey hairs than before!  We hope the day goes well for you too.

Well done PJ McCarthy who completed the Limerick Marathon in an excellent 3 hours 27 minutes today.  Great running by PJ - there's no stopping him at the moment.

Waterford to Tramore Run

Well done to the large Tramore AC contingent who ran in the Waterford to Tramore 7.5 mile run on Saturday 5th May.  On what was a lovely night for running and the added pleasure of running towards home, we had approximately 16 runners taking part who all finished with smiles on their faces and all looking very comfortable.  We also had a great number of supporters on the route, placed well to give much needed encouragement.  Well done all.  Full results here
